Some of them even appear to be illogically bizarre and odd, but people still love to be a part of these rituals. Here are the 5 really odd wedding rituals.
5. Kissing Ritual
This ritual is quite famous
in Sweden. What exactly happens in this ritual is that whenever the bride or groom plans to leave the table for any reason, the people around start kissing the other one. For example, if the groom leaves the table, then every male who is a part of the reception
is going to get a golden opportunity of kissing the bride. I don’t know about you, but I might get really angry if someone does this to my wife. I mean what is the point in kissing the partner of any other person without his or her consent.
4. Rings in Toes
You might have seen brides wearing rings on their fingers, but in some societies newly wedded women utilize their toes for this purpose. One such society is the Hindu society in which this practice is common. The ring that is used in this regard is mostly silver and the bride is to wear this ring in her left foot. After that the groom slips off the ring from the bride as the ceremony is progressing.
3. Stealing the Shoes
There are a number of countries in South Asia where the grooms are not allowed to wear their shoes, as they approach the wedding altar. And as soon as the groom takes off his shoes, girls from the side of the bride’s family steal it and hide it in some place. Afterwards when the groom starts looking for the shoes, he is asked to pay a desired amount in order to have his shoe back. In other words, the shoe is held hostage on the demand of a ransom.
2. Motherly Intervention
In some areas in Africa, an elderly woman is required to accompany the bride into her bedroom. Most of the times an elderly woman from the village does the job, but the mother is also allowed to do this for her daughter. So, if you think that your parents are nosy, then you should have some other thought coming. Now this wedding ritual is indeed very strange and odd.
1. Kidnapping the Bride
You might have heard about incidents in which a man kidnaps the girl he loves in order to marry her. It is still prevalent in some Gypsies cultures, in which if you succeed in kidnapping a girl and keep her with you for three days then she becomes your wife automatically and officially. Surely, this wedding ritual deserves the right to be termed as the most odd of them all.
